Hot TappingHot-Tapping is the process of drilling a hole in a live piping system without shutting down the piping system. Hot-tapping is very commonly used in the oil and gas industry for carrying out modifications to existing plant piping. Where shut-down of a plant can cause huge production loss, hot-tapping is normally resorted to. Before carrying out a hot-tap operation, a complete analysis of the piping system must be carried out to ensure feasibility of executing the hot-tap. Hot tapping of materials that require post-weld heat treatment is generally not permitted. To view rest of this section, please login or register.. |
